Purpose & Vision
The IAMazonia principles
Central role of local population
Local populations and communities are at the core of IAM projects firstly as the main target of social impact initiatives (i.e. education, job creation, health services, connectivity, nutrition, etc.): The importance of local population is reflected then also by the direct involvement and active participation of a remarkable number of local people since the beginning (project design phase).
Development of "additional" economic activities
“additional” means “in addition to” carbon credits generating activities (i.e. in Project Mejuruà, forest conservation); these additional economic activities should be able to last “ad perpetuum”, by combining two essential features:
- Provide the project (and thus the people working in it) with the necessary productive infrastructure, technology, know-how, and financial resources to manage all project’s activities, both economic-productive and social and environmental ones;
- Focus on an industrial/agricultural sector with a ”historically growing demand” (e.g. food products, high quality timber, textiles, etc.)
Enhancement of local renewable natural resources
All project activites should be based on a sustainable use of local natural resources, including so-called ”(natural) wastes”: e.g. wood, fruit/berries, fish, natural essences, rubber, etc.; examples of “wastes”: skin fish for leather shoes production, fallen wood for biochar, wood production scraps to fuel a biomass plant.
Assignment of a significant portion of project value creation in favor of the territory
IAMazonia corporate model stands in between Profit and Non-Profit.
Open architecture
the model is focused on creating partnerships with firstly local political and social institutions, but also with both local and international social operators and corporations, to employ best skills and expertise to every aspect of project activities.
Adoption of best standards and best practices
to facilitate measurability, monitoring, and certification; this is an “always on-going” process, centered on advanced technological solutions (e.g., Xange.com), aimed at creating the conditions for continuous and efficient interaction with all stakeholders: investors, lenders, local communities, authorities, NGOs, the press, political and social institutions, certifiers, rating agencies, etc.
IAMazonia complies with all certifications, standards, and methodologies required by the market and existing regulations, and will always be ready to update the features of its projects based on market demands.
Fiscal responsibility
All IAMazonia Projects must forgo available mechanisms of tax optimization “typical” of the carbon credit industry (and beyond). All taxes are paid in the country where the project is developed.
